Getting ready to go!

It’s Thursday, May 30th in rainy NYC and I’m getting set to head out. My first flight is on Sunday to Virginia, then a week later off to Colombia.

laying out the first round of supplies – extra sunblock and 3 bottles of DEET

At this point, I’m hoping to prepare more for the Q grader. (Get up to speed on the Backstory page!) So far, I’ve read through a number of the SCA materials like the Cupper’s Handbook and Defect Guide, but I haven’t dug in to Coffee Processing Technology (Sivetz) or the Water Quality Handbook yet.

I’ve got my itinerary set, though! I might move around in Colombia a bit more than planned, but here’s the idea:

June 2 – 9: Q Grader Training and Exam in Williamsburg, VA

June 9-20: Learning about coffee processing, export, and supply chain in Bogotá, Colombia

June 21 – July 27: Living on the El Fenix coffee cooperative in Calarca, Quindio

July 27 – August 2: Reflection and retrospection in Bogotá

I’ll try to update this blog as often as possible. If you ever have any questions, post a comment or send me an email!
